The Calgary Tartan

The Calgary Fire Department Pipes & Drums is proud to wear the "Calgary Tartan".

A few years before our band's decision to purchase kilts, a St Andrew-Caledonian Society in Calgary had the foresight to commission the design of one of the world's most striking tartans.

The tartan was unveiled on August 3, 2003 and designed by Donna Buie of Cochrane, Alberta.

The tartan's colours represent:

RED - a Calgary colour from the North West Mounted Police
BLUE - for Calgary's rivers - the Bow and Elbow
YELLOW - for the prairie and wheat fields that are found to the east
GREY - for the Rocky Mountains to the west
BLACK - for the oil and gas industry which has made Calgary prosper
WHITE - represents Calgary's pride in, and the symbolism, of the white Stetson and White Hatter Awards.

The Calgary Tartan is the registered property of the St. Andrew-Caledonian Society of Calgary and is an official symbol of the City of Calgary.  Please contact their website for more information on both the tartan and the Society.
